Since you are reading this to learn about me and I have already covered my stand on key issues, here are some miscellaneous things you might be interested in.

  • I am a Volkswagen enthusiast. I have a 1967 European Beetle that I work on and drive to the Volkswagen shows in the area. One of my bucket list goals is to acquire a 1967 21 Window Deluxe Microbus and to drive it the entire length of Interstate 40 from Wilmington, NC to Barstow, CA.

  • I have a small Koi and Goldfish pond. I spend a lot of time just watching the fish but also a lot of effort in maintaining the filters and plants. I am told you should have a black Koi in your pond for luck so I have a black Koi. It may have been for the luck of the person selling me the Koi.

  • I buy more toys for my grandkids than I did for my children.

  • I have a fully restored 1956 Chevrolet Belair that I inherited from my dad. I keep it in good working order but I don’t take it to as many car shows as I do my Beetle. I am having some trouble with the temperature gauge since I caught the carburetor on fire trying to start it one time. Did you know that in 1956, door panels were actually nailed to the door frame?

  • One of our daughters lives in Michigan with her family. We spend a lot of time driving back and forth to Michigan.

  • I go to submarine reunions every two years. Our last reunion was in South Dakota. This was the first time we had held a reunion that wasn’t at a Navy base. There are some Republicans in even a rational group like former submariners. Luckily, they are in the minority.
